Safety Film foils cell phone snatcher
A would-be smash and grab thief was recently thwarted in his attempt to snatch a cellphone from a Mr. M.C. de Vos, representative for a Precast Concrete Company, by Klingshield’s protective safety film fitted to the windows of his company car.
The incident has prompted Mr. de Vos to write to Klingshield, suppliers and fitters of automotive high performance safety and sun control film coating.
This incident took place in January this year in Rosettenville Road, Turffontein, Johannesburg.
“I was on my way to a business call” he says and “stopped at a robot. The thief seemed to appear out of nowhere. He hit the front passenger window with a sharp object held in the palm of his hand, shattering the glass. Fortunately the glass stayed in position and even though the next two blows with his elbow pierced the shield, it gave me time to recover, get into gear and pull away. The would-be thief ran off”.
As a shocked Mr. de Vos explained to his business clients a short while later “the sun screen film kept the cracked glass from shattering and dropping out, otherwise the thief would have grabbed what he was after and made off”.
As it turned out, Mr. de Vos was able to tape the cracks together until he could arrange a window replacement the next day. The additional benefit of the sun screen film has prompted his own company and that of his clients to consider fitting all their vehicles with Klingshield. “It may save more than just the contents in your car”, he concluded.
